Ligurian Bees:

The Ligurian bees on Kangaroo Island are believed to be the last remaining pure stock of this bee found anywhere in the world.

In the early 1880's Ligurian bees were imported by the South Australian Chamber of Manufacturers. The island was declared a bee sanctuary in 1885.

Ligurian Queen Bees:

The breeding of queen bees is expanding as the pure Ligurian bee produces highly valued industrious honey, pollen & propolis collection.

The pristine environment & disease-free status is of increasing importance queen bee breeding and Island honey.
